The Yamas & Niyamas: A Deeper Look
Living the Yogic Philosophy – taking yoga off the mat. Applying the yamas and niyamas, the ancient moral and ethical guidelines of yoga, to our lives today with the goal of decreasing suffering and increasing peace.
The Details
As yoga teachers, it is our responsibility to lead by example and practice yoga more than one hour of asana per day. In this 25-hour module, we will dive deep into the yamas and niyamas, the moral and ethical guidelines in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras; offering the opportunity to live a more yogic lifestyle. We will examine each yama and niyama individually, as we review various interpretations through books, presentations and discussion. We will take each of the ancient and sacred guidelines and interpret their meaning into our modern world and lives today.
Each day will include:
-
A short asana practice and mediation session to begin.
-
The introduction and explanation of the highlighted yama and niyama, including different interpretations from various sources.
-
Relevant questions to contemplate and journal on.
-
Q & A and discussion time.
