Yoga Nidra Workshop
with Amanada Vanwinkle
Sunday, March 9, 2014
1:00 - 3:00 Class
The average sadhaka has a very hectic life, leaving only an hour or so to dedicate to themselves and their practice. Yet, that five minute savasana, while highly anticipated, doesn't always do the trick. Sometimes the body just needs more recovery. So why not spend an entire hour or two in Savasana? This practice of bliss is called Yoga Nidra.
Yoga Nidra, literally translating "Yogi Sleep" is a deep state of yogi hypnosis. It referes to the conscious awareness known as Prajna, or a state of cognitive acuity; one may even loosely compare it to lucid dreaming. The sadhaka is completely aware of their physical environment yet the mind is in a dream-like state. Through a verbal guide the body is placed in deep state of relaxation and is then aided through a very intimate meditative state.
While not considered traditionally Restorative Yoga, it is a form of restoration to the over-worked mind.
